Connect an agent to a messaging channel

Updated September 14, 2026

Agent channels let people converse with an agent from a supported messaging service. This is different from connecting a plugin so Aleria can read or act on your account in that service.

Set up a channel

  1. Open the agent and its Channels section.
  2. Choose an available platform.
  3. Follow that platform's setup instructions and provide the requested configuration.
  4. Connect it and send a simple test message from the messaging service.
  5. Check the agent's conversation in Aleria to confirm the exchange.

The current channel interface includes setup for Telegram, Mattermost, and Slack. Use the enabled choices in your deployment as the final guide; entries marked unavailable or coming soon are not ready to configure.

Test the interaction

Confirm how the platform starts a conversation: a direct message, a mention, or the interaction described in its setup. For Mattermost, the bot responds in direct messages and when explicitly mentioned in a channel.

Test with the intended users and check what information the agent returns. Channel access and plugin account access are separate configurations.

Maintain the connection

If the agent stops responding, check the channel configuration, bot permissions in the messaging service, and the agent's availability. Update or disconnect the channel when ownership or access changes.
